Passion fruit is a type of berry which is an antioxidant powerhouse that has been gaining popularity due to its many health benefits and high levels of essential minerals. Highly aromatic with a sourish taste, it has long been believed to offer benefits such as reducing inflammation, aiding digestion and beneficial for the skin, vision and immunity. 

Studies have shown that passion fruit offers protection against inflammatory conditions for the heart and even protect against insulin resistance among overweight adults due to it’s high antioxidant compounds and phytonutrients. High in fiber, passion fruit is low in sugar and is beneficial for those following a low glycemic diet.

In a 2018 trial, it was found that the piceatannol from passion fruit provided a “wide variety of effects on the skin, including promoting collagen production, inhibiting melanin synthesis, inducing the antioxidant glutathione and eliminating reactive oxygen species” as well as reduce photo-aging.
